HUBPAGES: HOW MONEY IS EARNED THROUGH WRITING
66REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS
FIRST THINGS FIRST
First things first. You will not earn any money on hubpages until you get approval from google adsense, and perform the computer gymnastics necessary to open up your account. The computer work involved requires a reasonable amount of computer literacy, and frankly, I had to make several attempts before I accomplished it. I don't remember exactly how I did it now, but there are many articles written on this subject that can help you with the technical aspects of writing for googlesense through hubpages. My motive here is to explain basically how you are able to earn money by writing (with google acceptance), and about how much you can expect to earn initially.
HOW DO I EARN MONEY FROM WRITING ARTICLES WITH GOOGLE APPROVAL?
When your ads are submitted and published, the google system places ads around your article that are somewhat related to the content of your writing. Understand that you do not get paid simply for people reading your articles; if that were the case I could retire early, as my hubs are read often, and frequently by people who have read my work previously. You only earn money from google when someone clicks on one of the ads that appear around your article.
ARE YOU GUARANTEED ANY MONEY, OR DO YOU EARN A SPECIFIC AMOUNT, WEEKLY, MONTHLY, OR ANNUALLY?
No. There is no guarantee you will earn the first dime. If you are needing to earn money quick, I suggest you get a job at Wal-mart or McDonald's. You won't get rich in either of those places, but you will earn money more quickly than is possible through writing for Hubpages. Since you are only paid when your readers happen to be interested in the ads surrounding your writing, and are interested enough to actually click on the ad to read it, you cannot know in advance how much, if any, money you will earn.
HOW MUCH CAN I EXPECT TO EARN?
Guarantees are one thing; expectations are entirely different animals. You can expect your earnings to grow as you increase the number of articles you include on your hubpages site. It will take quite a few articles to make any money at all. I probably had about 10 hubs already written when I was approved by google for adsense. I continued to write non stop until I had written about 38 hubs, and lost interest for about four months due to the work involved and the small amount of money earned.
When I checked my site again in middle February of 2010, it had earned less than $10, but I decided to begin writing again due to an interest in anti cancer research, diet, and a desire to share what I had learned. After months of under employment, my self esteem had taken a brutal beating, and I felt a need for the academic accomplishment I experience from doing research and writing. I needed to feel that I was accomplishing something worthwhile on some level, even though my part time job pays minimum wage and requires no skill an idiot couldn't master.
I have now written 86 hubs; this one will be my 87th one. Yesterday, I had earned $18.56, a little over twice as much googlesense money as I had earned when I began writing again. It stands to reason that the more articles you have out there, the more people are likely to read them, and happen to click on one of the ads surrounding them. This is not magic or difficult to grasp, as it is the same principle taught in any sales training event. "If you throw enough poop against a fan, some of it will stick." That said, the process will not be quick, and will require writing many many articles. If you love writing as I do, you will eventually make some money, though I am unsure of exactly how much that will be.
Since you are not paid the first dime until you earn $100, and are paid the full amount at that time, my guess is that I will have been writing for over a year before I ever get paid at all. Some people may earn money faster, but I would have to question the quality of their work, since writing well thought out articles, requiring research, is time consuming. I seldom get over two quality articles written in a single day.
I have also noted that the articles I have read that focus merely on making money through this type of effort, read more like get rich quick schemes than they do informational articles. That is why I have now written two articles related to making money on hubpages. People need to know the truth as it relates to how much effort will be required, and how long it will take. Anything less than going into this work with one's eyes wide open, is submitting to a scam.
You are not going to get rich quickly, or at all, through writing articles on line for googlesense, demand Studios, or anybody else. I suggest that you read the googlesense service agreement whch states the conditions very clearly, and don't support those who are trying to get rich quickly themselves, at your emotional expense. Don't read their low quality poorly written hubs, and do not click on their ads. Increase your revenue through well documented hubs that perform a service for those who read them, and write simply for the joy of writing. Eventually, if you write enough, and long enough, the money will most likely flow.

Thanks for bringing realistic expectations into focus. This kind of honesty is so necessary in this age of get-rich-quick schemes. Thanks, and God bless.
Nicely written
Valerie, when you wrote this hub you were at 87, now you're at 335, you must be doing real good, as well as you should be, you're good, as proven by this hub.
nice hub.
- I'm relatively new to all of this and this hub cleared a lot of it up for me. Thank you : )
I enjoyed reading your writing philosophy and marvel at the speed you accumulate hubs. I wonder if you can help write a hub detailing the steps on how to magnetize readers into clicking an ad or 2 in a hub. Thank you, Valeriebelew.

Great Hub, Valerie. Well written, informative, and very truthful.
Writing here is a terrific creative outlet for me, and money earned through it a nice by-product. First and foremost, I enjoy being able to share what I know to a wide audience.
And thank you, Valerie, for sharing!
