BEARBERRY: CREEPING EVERGREEN GROUND COVER
72EVERGREEN GROWN COVER
BEARBERRY
Bearberry is a useful ground cover on sandy banks and rocky slopes where the soil is of poor quality, especially on the seashore. Its long trailing stems and small leathery leaves make a low mat that turns bronzy in the fall. The pinkish white flowers appearing in May are not as noticeable as the red berries that ripen by September and are eaten by the birds. Bearberry is a native plant from eastern North America to the Pacific Coast, and grows quickly in sun or part shade in light, well-drained soil.
VARIETIES
Another name for Bearberry is kinnikinnick, and it is often sold in small potted plants.
HOW AND WHEN TO PLANT
Set out the plants in spring or early fall, a foot apart if a quick ground coveriing is wanted.
CARE AND PROTECTION
Keep lime away from these plants. If they spread too far, cut them back in spring.

Thanks for the information. This is one I'm not very familiar with. It looks really pretty.
This looks like a sweet plant - I wonder if we can get it here, it would be nice in my front garden.
BTW, I've noticed that you have been featured very/extremely often lately, congratulations on having great hubs, and being featured.
